Formal. Generally interchangeable, but 'bewilderment' often implies deeper or longer-lasting confusion; 'The sudden noise caused bewilderment' works, but not 'Confusion caused bewilderment'.

Formal/common. Refers to lack of order or organization. Can replace confusion when describing physical environments; 'There was disorder everywhere' is correct, not for mental state.
