Everyday. Refers specifically to the oxidation of iron or steel, often visible as a reddish-brown coating. Cannot be used for other elements or in a scientific context for general oxidation. 'The iron oxidises' is interchangeable with 'The iron rusts'. 'Copper rusts' is incorrect.
