Common. A sensation of whirling and loss of balance, associated with looking down from a great height, or caused by disease affecting the inner ear or brain. While vertigo can be triggered by heights, it's a physical sensation (dizziness) rather than just the fear itself. 'She experiences vertigo when she stands on the edge' describes the physical symptom, whereas 'She has acrophobia' describes the fear.
