اصطلاح کلی برای مناطق مرتفع. در اشاره به مناطق بلند و مسطح قابل جایگزینی با 'plateaus' است، اما 'highlands' میتواند شامل قلهها و درهها نیز باشد، نه فقط زمین مسطح. The Scottish Highlands are beautiful درست است، اما The Tibetan Highlands are mostly plateaus دقیقتر است.
General term for elevated regions. Can be used interchangeably with 'plateaus' when referring to high, flat areas, but 'highlands' can also include peaks and valleys, not just flat land. 'The Scottish Highlands are beautiful' works, but 'The Tibetan Highlands are mostly plateaus' is more specific.
