تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
رایج/رسمی. گستردهتر از 'racist'، به هر کسی که نسبت به افراد با عقاید یا باورهای متفاوت مدارا ندارد، اشاره دارد، نه فقط نژاد. در صورتی که تعصب نژادی باشد، میتواند به جای 'racists' استفاده شود، اما به اشکال دیگر عدم تحمل نیز اطلاق میشود. 'He called them bigots for their narrow views.' برای عدم تحمل عمومی درست است، 'They were bigots towards immigrants' برای تعصب نژادی درست است.
Common/Formal. Broader than 'racist', referring to anyone intolerant towards those holding different opinions or beliefs, not just race. Can be used in place of 'racists' if the bigotry is race-based, but also applies to other forms of intolerance. 'He called them bigots for their narrow views.' works for general intolerance, 'They were bigots towards immigrants' works for race-based.
رسمی/فنی. افرادی که معتقدند نژاد خودشان برتر از همه نژادهای دیگر است. این شکل شدیدتری از نژادپرستی است. اگر فقط به تعصبات عادی اشاره داشته باشد، قابل جایگزینی نیست. 'White supremacists believe in racial purity.' درست است، 'Some racists are also supremacists' درست است، اما 'Many everyday racists are supremacists' نادرست است.
Formal/Technical. Individuals who believe their own race is superior to all others. This is a more extreme form of racism. Not interchangeable if merely referring to casual prejudice. 'White supremacists believe in racial purity.' works, 'Some racists are also supremacists' works, but 'Many everyday racists are supremacists' is incorrect.
