To make a surface uneven, coarse, or less smooth.
«نجار از کاغذ سنباده استفاده کرد تا سطح چوب را زبر کند.»

«هنرمند برای ایجاد بافت سطح بوم را زبر کرد.»
“The artist roughened the canvas to give it texture.”
غیررسمی. فقط برای ایجاد خراشهای کوچک یا ناصاف کردن سطح با خراشیدن. به ایجاد زبری کامل سطح اشاره ندارد.
Informal. Only for slight surface damage or making rough by scraping. 'Scuff' implies minor marks, not intentional roughening of entire surface.
روزمره. معمولاً به آسیب تصادفی سطح اشاره دارد، نه ایجاد بافت عمدی. به ندرت در جای 'roughen' در موقعیتهای عمدی به کار میرود.
Everyday. Usually accidental surface damage, not deliberate texturing. Less interchangeable with 'roughen' in deliberate contexts.
