تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
فنی/زمانسنجی. مخفف 'post meridiem' است که برای نشان دادن دوره از ظهر تا نیمهشب در ساعت ۱۲ ساعته استفاده میشود. 'Afternoon' کلمه توصیفی است، 'pm' نشانگر زمان است. 'بعدازظهر میبینمت' در مقابل 'جلسه ساعت ۲ بعدازظهر است'.
Technical/Timekeeping. An abbreviation for 'post meridiem,' used to denote the period from noon to midnight when using a 12-hour clock. 'Afternoon' is the descriptive word, 'pm' is the time notation. 'See you this afternoon' vs. 'The meeting is at 2 pm'.
ادبی/کهنه. پایان روز؛ عصر. 'Eventide' یک اصطلاح قدیمیتر و شاعرانه است که به طور خاص به گذار از اواخر بعدازظهر به اوایل عصر اشاره دارد، نه کل بعدازظهر. در کاربرد مدرن قابل جایگزینی نیست.
Literary/Archaic. The end of the day; evening. 'Eventide' is an older, poetic term that specifically refers to the transition from late afternoon to early evening, not the entire afternoon. Not interchangeable in modern usage.
