Refers specifically to excess material that flows out between the two parts of a mold during casting or forging, or a thin edge of material remaining on a part after it has been trimmed or stamped. It implies a defect from manufacturing process, while 'bur' can be any rough edge. Not interchangeable with 'bur' when referring to natural plant casings.
