یک محفل اجتماعی یا گردهمایی؛ گروهی از افراد با علایق مشترک. اغلب در بافتهای تاریخی فرانسوی به کار میرود.
A social circle or gathering; a coterie. Often used in French historical contexts.
«محفل روشنفکری هفتگی برای بحث در مورد فلسفه گرد هم میآمدند.»
“The intellectual cercle met weekly to discuss philosophy.”
«او به محفل انحصاری مشاوران ملکه دعوت شد.»
“She was invited into the exclusive cercle of the queen's advisors.”
غیررسمی/کمی منفی. به گروهی کوچک و انحصاری از افراد اشاره دارد که معمولاً از غریبهها استقبال نمیکنند. 'دسته محبوب در مدرسه' مناسب است، اما 'cercle از روشنفکران' با بار منفی آن همخوانی ندارد.
Informal/slightly negative. Refers to a small, exclusive group of people who are often unwelcoming to outsiders. 'The popular clique in school' works, but 'a cercle of intellectuals' doesn't fit the negative connotation.
رسمی/خنثی. گروه کوچکی از افراد با علایق یا سلایق مشترک، اغلب انحصاری. در انگلیسی مدرن در بافتهای آکادمیک یا ادبی رایجتر از 'cercle' است. 'محفل هنرمندان' مناسب است، 'محفل دوستان' برای گروههای دوستی روزمره کمتر رایج است.
Formal/neutral. A small group of people with shared interests or tastes, often exclusive. More common in academic or literary contexts than 'cercle' in modern English. 'A coterie of artists' works, 'a coterie of friends' is less common for everyday friendship groups.
