خط مستقیمی که دو گوشهٔ مقابل یک شکل را به هم وصل میکند.
A straight line connecting two opposite corners of a shape or figure.
«یک قطر از گوشه بالا چپ به گوشه پایین راست بکش.»
“Draw a diagonal from the top left corner to the bottom right.”
«مربع دو قطر با طول برابر دارد.»
“The square has two diagonals of equal length.”

صفت — مورب
قرار گرفته یا کشیده شده از یک گوشه به گوشهٔ مخالف در یک شکل یا جسم.
Situated or extending from one corner to the opposite corner across a shape or object.
«خطوط مورب طرح یکدیگر را میشکنند.»
“The diagonal lines of the pattern cross each other.”
«او کاغذ را به نوارهای مورب برش داد.»
“She cut the paper into diagonal strips.”
تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
رسمی. به معنی مایل است و گاهی جایگزین diagonal میشود اما شامل زاویههایی غیر از ۴۵ درجه نیز هست.
Formal. Means slanted or not perpendicular, often interchangeable with diagonal but can include angles other than 45° or corner to corner lines. For example, 'oblique lines' may not connect corners.
غیررسمی. به معنی شیب دار یا کج است ولی الزاماً از گوشه به گوشه نیست.
Informal. Means sloping or tilted but not necessarily corner to corner lines. Less precise technically than diagonal.
