Everyday. A woman of violent temper and speech, often used to describe a scolding or nagging woman. 'Harridan' implies a more severe, often older, and dominant woman. 'She's a real shrew when she's angry' works, 'The old harridan shouted at the children' works.

Literary/dated. A quarrelsome, scolding woman. Very similar to 'shrew' and 'harridan', but less common in modern usage. 'She was a termagant in her youth' works, but sounds old-fashioned.
