However, 'exclusive' often carries a connotation of high quality or prestige, which 'monopolistic' does not. 'An exclusive club' works, 'an exclusive market' works in some contexts, but 'monopolistic market' is about control. 'Monopolistic practices' can't be replaced by 'exclusive practices'.
