Common. Very similar in meaning and often interchangeable, especially when a higher power negates a subordinate decision. 'Overrule' is more often used in legal contexts, while 'override' can apply more broadly to systems or processes. 'The judge overruled the objection' and 'The judge overrode the objection' are both common.

Formal/Political. To reject a decision or proposal made by a law-making body. 'Veto' specifically refers to the power of a single entity (like a president) to block legislation. 'Overrule' is broader and can apply to any decision, not just legislation. 'The president vetoed the bill' is correct, but 'The president overruled the bill' is not.
