to formally request to marry someone
«او دیشب از او خواستگاری کرد.»
“He asked for her hand in marriage last night.”
«بهطور سنتی، مرد قبل از ازدواج خواستگاری میکند.»
“Traditionally, a man asks for a woman's hand before marrying.”
رسمی. تقریباً قابل جایگزینی؛ propose marriage رسمیتر و مستقیمتر است. مثلاً «او دیشب خواستگاری کرد.»
Formal. Almost interchangeable; 'propose marriage' is more formal and direct. For example, 'He proposed marriage last night.'
غیررسمی/محاورهای. بیشتر در گفتار برای درخواست ازدواج به کار میرود. مناسب نوشتار رسمی نیست.
Informal/colloquial. Used mainly in conversational contexts to mean asking to marry someone. Not suitable for formal writing.
