Technical/Medical. Often used specifically in a medical context for covering a wound, which can involve more than just a bandage (e.g., gauze, antiseptic). 'The nurse changed the dressing' works. 'The bandaging of the wound was complete' is interchangeable but 'dressing' is more common in medical talk.
