'Toil' carries a more serious and sometimes noble connotation of hard work compared to the often demeaning nature of 'drudge'. 'He toiled in the fields from dawn till dusk' works, 'He drudged in the fields' is also possible but with a sense of being forced or exploited.

Similar to 'drudge' but without the strong implication of menial or exploited work; can be used for someone working hard for a good cause. 'The dedicated toilers built the bridge' works. 'The drudges built the bridge' would imply a more negative circumstance.
