متداول. در بسیاری موارد درباره آب که زمین را میپوشاند، قابل تعویض است اما 'flood' در موقعیتهای دیگر هم به معنی زیاد بودن است. مثال: 'سیل خانهها را خراب کرد' درست است، 'سیل ایمیلها' به معنی آب نیست.
Common. Interchangeable in many contexts referring to water covering land, but 'flood' can also mean excess in other contexts. Example: 'The flood destroyed homes' works, 'The flood of emails' doesn’t mean water.
رسمی یا ادبی. اشاره به طغیان بسیار بزرگ یا ناگهانی دارد که اغلب دراماتیک است. در زبان روزمره flood رایجتر است. مثال: 'طغیان دره را فرا گرفت' حالت دراماتیک دارد.
Formal or literary. Refers to a very large or sudden flood, often dramatic. In common speech, 'flood' is more frequent. Example: 'A deluge swept the valley' sounds dramatic.
