Common, general. Fully interchangeable for abstract ideas or principles that form the basis of something. 'A strong foundation of knowledge' works just like 'A cornerstone of knowledge'.

فنی، معماری. در حالی که هر دو سازهای هستند، سنگ طاق (keystone) به طور خاص سنگی گوه ای شکل در بالای طاق است که سنگهای دیگر را در جای خود قفل میکند. سنگ بنا (cornerstone) در گوشه پایینی است.
Technical, architectural. While both are structural, a keystone is specifically the wedge-shaped stone at the apex of an arch, locking the other stones in place. A cornerstone is at the bottom corner. 'The keystone held the arch together' but 'The cornerstone marked the building's start'.
