یک عنوان احترام آمیز که قبلاً در ترکیه و برخی کشورهای خاورمیانه استفاده میشد، معادل 'آقا' یا 'استاد'، که اغلب به اسم اضافه میشد.

متداول. یک اصطلاح کلی برای خطاب محترمانه به یک مرد. 'افندی' بسیار خاصتر است، عنوانی باستانی از یک منطقه و فرهنگ خاص. در حالی که هر دو محترمانه هستند، 'آقا' جهانی است و 'افندی' تاریخی. 'ممنون آقا' متداول است، 'ممنون افندی' فقط در بافت تاریخی یا منطقهای استفاده میشود.
Common. A general term of polite address to a man. 'Effendi' is much more specific, being an archaic title from a particular region and culture. While both are respectful, 'sir' is universal, 'effendi' is historical. 'Thank you, sir' is common, 'Thank you, effendi' would be used only in a historical or regional context.
متداول. به کسی با مهارت یا دانش فراوان اشاره دارد، یا به صورت تاریخی، فردی که خدمتکار دارد. به معنای عنوان احترامآمیز، به طور کلی مشابه است اما فاقد زمینه فرهنگی و تاریخی خاص 'افندی' است. 'او یک صنعتگر ماهر است' درست است، اما 'او استاد مصطفی است' همان معنای 'مصطفی افندی' را منتقل نمیکند.
Common. Refers to someone with great skill or knowledge, or historically, a person who has servants. In the sense of a respectful title, it's broadly similar but lacks the specific cultural and historical context of 'effendi'. 'He is a master craftsman' works, but 'He is master Mustafa' would not convey the same meaning as 'Mustafa Effendi'.
