رسمی/ادبی. به اعتدال در عمل، فکر یا احساس؛ خویشتنداری اشاره دارد. در تأکید بر خویشتنداری و اعتدال بسیار نزدیک به 'sophrosyne' است، اما 'sophrosyne' یک ایدهآل گستردهتر از سلامت روانی و اخلاقی در فلسفه یونان باستان را در بر میگیرد.
Formal/literary. Refers to moderation in action, thought, or feeling; restraint. Very close to 'sophrosyne' in its emphasis on self-control and moderation, but 'sophrosyne' encompasses a broader ideal of mental and moral health in ancient Greek philosophy.
