رسمی/نظامی. بمباران توپخانهای متمرکز در یک منطقه وسیع، یا مقدار زیادی از چیزی که به سمت کسی هدایت میشود. زمانی میتواند جایگزین 'volley' شود که به جریان مداوم یا شدید چیزی اشاره دارد، نه فقط یک انفجار واحد. 'آماج سوالات' درست است، 'آتشبار توپخانه' درست است.
Formal/military. A concentrated artillery bombardment over a wide area, or a large quantity of something directed at someone. Can replace 'volley' when referring to a continuous or intense flow of something, not just a single burst. 'A barrage of questions' works, 'An artillery barrage' works.

Everyday. To hit something. More general than 'volley' and does not imply hitting before it touches the ground. Not interchangeable when the specific 'before it touches ground' aspect is important. 'He struck the ball hard' works, 'He struck the ball on the volley' is more precise.
