Formal. A connoisseur is an expert judge in matters of taste, especially art, food, or wine. Interchangeable with 'aesthete' when referring to someone with deep knowledge of art and beauty, but 'connoisseur' implies expert knowledge and critical judgment, not just appreciation. 'He is a connoisseur of classical music' works, 'She is an aesthete of classical music' is less common.

Often derogatory. A dilettante is a person who cultivates an area of interest, such as the arts, without real commitment or knowledge. It contrasts with 'aesthete' because an aesthete has genuine appreciation, while a dilettante's interest is often superficial. 'He's a true aesthete, spending hours in galleries' works, 'He's a dilettante, dabbling in art without understanding it' is how it's often used.
