فنی/نظامی. یک دیوار محافظتی کم ارتفاع در امتداد لبه سقف، پل یا بالکن، یا دیواری از خاک یا سنگ برای محافظت از سربازان. در زمینه نظامی بسیار شبیه به 'breastworks' است اما میتواند به سازههای غیرنظامی نیز اشاره کند. 'سربازان پشت جانپناه پنهان شدند' درست است، شبیه به 'سربازان پشت breastworks پنهان شدند'.
Technical/military. A low protective wall along the edge of a roof, bridge, or balcony, or a wall of earth or stone to protect soldiers. Very similar to 'breastworks' in military context but can also refer to non-military structures. 'Soldiers hid behind the parapets' works, similar to 'Soldiers hid behind the breastworks'.

Common/military. Long, narrow ditches dug in the ground to protect soldiers. While both are defensive structures, 'trenches' are dug into the ground and usually deeper than breastworks, which are built up. 'Soldiers fought from the trenches' works, but 'Soldiers fought from the breastworks' implies a shallower, more temporary defense.
