تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
رسمی/نظامی. برای کشتیها یا هواپیماهای نظامی یا رسمی به شدت قابل تعویض است. برای تیمهای ورزشی کمتر رایج است. «The commander of the vessel» و «The captain of the vessel» هر دو درست هستند. «The football commander» درست نیست.
Formal/military. Highly interchangeable for military or official vessels/aircraft. Less common for sports teams. 'The commander of the vessel' works, 'The captain of the vessel' also works. 'The football commander' does not.

Common. A more general term for someone who guides or directs. A captain is a type of leader, but not all leaders are captains. 'The team leader motivated them' works, 'The team captain motivated them' also works and is more specific.
