Everyday. The most general term for military personnel. Completely interchangeable with 'troops' in most contexts referring to individuals or small groups, but 'troops' is more common for collective units. 'The soldiers marched' works, 'The troops marched' also works, but 'Our troops are deployed' is more common than 'Our soldiers are deployed'.

Can often be used interchangeably with 'troops' in a broad sense, but 'forces' implies the entire organization or a large division, not just individual combatants. 'Government forces moved in' works, 'Government troops moved in' works, but 'He joined the forces' implies the entire military, not just becoming a soldier.
