تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
رسمی/ادبی. اغلب در بافتهای داستانی قابل تعویض هستند، اما بر مخالفت با قهرمان داستان تأکید دارد تا شرارت ذاتی. «شرور داستان» و «دشمن اصلی داستان» اغلب یک شخصیت هستند، اما «دشمن اصلی» میتواند یک نیرو یا موقعیت نیز باشد. «آب و هوا دشمن اصلی سفر ما بود» درست است، اما «آب و هوا شرور بود» کمتر طبیعی به نظر میرسد.
Formal/literary. Often interchangeable in fictional contexts but emphasizes opposition to the protagonist rather than inherent evil. 'The villain of the story' and 'the antagonist of the story' are often the same character, but 'antagonist' can also be a force or situation. 'The weather was the antagonist of our journey' works, but 'the weather was the villain' sounds less natural.
