'Ouster' is more general and common for political or corporate removals, while 'defenestration' carries a more dramatic or historical connotation, often used figuratively for a very public and abrupt dismissal. 'The ouster of the CEO' is standard, 'The defenestration of the CEO' implies a more shocking event.
