تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
روزمره. باعث لغزش یا افتادن چیزی میشود. جنبه 'لزج' را پوشش میدهد اما 'منعطف' را نه. 'کف خیس بسیار لغزنده بود.' این عبارت درست است، اما 'کف خیس بسیار slithy بود' به دلیل ماهیت ابداعی کلمه، کاربرد ندارد.
Everyday. Causing or tending to cause something to slide or fall. Captures the 'slimy' aspect but not 'lithe'. 'The wet floor was very slippery.' This works, 'The wet floor was very slithy' does not work as it's a literary coinage.
رسمی/ادبی. (به ویژه در مورد بدن فرد) لاغر، نرم و ظریف. جنبه 'منعطف' را پوشش میدهد اما 'لزج' را نه. 'رقصنده بسیار منعطف بود.' این عبارت درست است، اما 'رقصنده بسیار slithy بود' گیجکننده خواهد بود مگر در بافت کارولی.
Formal/literary. (Especially of a person's body) thin, supple, and graceful. Captures the 'lithe' aspect but not 'slimy'. 'The dancer was very lithe.' This works, 'The dancer was very slithy' would be confusing unless in a Carrollian context.
