ترسویی یا خجالتی، کسی که اعتماد به نفس کمی دارد و زود میترسد.

رایج. معمولاً در رفتارشخصیتی اجتماعی به جای timid به کار میرود؛ shy بیشتر مختص زمینههای اجتماعی است. مثلاً در مکالمه معمولی میگویند 'a shy child' بهتر از 'a timid child' است.
Common. Often interchangeable with 'timid' for socially withdrawn behavior; 'shy' is used more in social contexts. For example, 'a shy child' works better than 'a timid child' in casual speech.
رسمی یا ادبی. اشاره به ضعف اخلاقی یا کمبود شجاعت دارد و همیشه قابل جایگزینی با timid نیست. مثلاً 'a cowardly act' بار منفی دارد اما 'timid behavior' توصیفی است.
Formal or literary. Implies a moral judgment of weakness or lack of bravery; not always interchangeable with 'timid' which is more neutral. For example, 'a cowardly act' is negative, 'timid behavior' is more descriptive.
