دروغ مصلحتی یا کوچک و بیضرر که برای جلوگیری از رنجاندن کسی یا حفظ روابط اجتماعی گفته میشود.

تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
غیررسمی. به دروغی بسیار کوچک، اغلب بچگانه یا بیاهمیت اشاره دارد. وقتی دروغ به وضوح جزئی و غیرمخرب باشد، قابل جایگزینی با 'white lie' است.
Informal. Suggests a very small, often childish or insignificant lie. Interchangeable with 'white lie' when the untruth is clearly minor and not malicious. 'She told a fib about eating the cookies' works, similar to 'She told a white lie to avoid trouble'.
رسمی. راهی مؤدبانه برای گفتن 'دروغ' بدون اتهام مستقیم. اگرچه میتواند به 'white lie' اشاره داشته باشد، اما مفهوم بیضرر یا با نیت خوب بودن را ندارد.
Formal. A polite way of saying 'lie' without directly accusing. While it can refer to a 'white lie', it doesn't carry the same implication of being harmless or well-intentioned. 'The statement contained an untruth' is more general than 'He told a white lie'.
