Common. Interchangeable with 'distort' mainly for physical shape changes, e.g. 'The wood warped in the sun' works, but 'He warped the facts' doesn’t.

Formal. Used specifically for false or inaccurate portrayal of facts rather than physical change, e.g. 'He misrepresented the data' but not physical distortion.
