تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
روزمره. وقتی کسی توسط شخص دیگری احساس ترس یا عدم اعتماد به نفس کند استفاده میشود. با threatened قابل تعویض است وقتی تهدید باعث ترس شود، اما intimidated بیشتر بر اثر روانی تمرکز دارد تا تهدید کلامی صریح. 'He was intimidated by her presence' درست است، اما 'He was intimidated to hit her' درست نیست.
Common. Used when someone is made to feel frightened or less confident by another person. Interchangeable with 'threatened' when the threat causes fear, but 'intimidated' focuses more on the emotional effect rather than the explicit verbal threat. 'He was intimidated by her presence' works, 'He was intimidated to hit her' doesn't.

Formal/Literary. Often implies a broader, ongoing sense of danger or an ominous presence rather than a direct, specific verbal threat. 'The storm menaced the coastline' works, 'He menaced to fire her' doesn't as it needs a direct object for the threat.

تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
فنی/خاص. تقریباً به طور انحصاری برای گونههای حیوانی یا گیاهی که وجودشان در خطر است استفاده میشود. در حالی که threatened نیز میتواند برای گونهها استفاده شود، endangered یک اصطلاح قویتر و فنیتر است. 'Endangered species' درست است، اما 'Endangered people' (مگر در معنای بسیار خاص و استعاری) درست نیست.
Technical/Specific. Almost exclusively used for species of animals or plants whose existence is at risk. While 'threatened' can also be used for species, 'endangered' is a stronger, more technical term. 'Endangered species' works, but 'Endangered people' doesn't (unless in a very specific, metaphorical sense).
