روزمره. معمولاً قابل جایگزینی است برای بیان ترس ـ «او از سگها ترسیده» و «او از سگها هراسان است» هر دو صحیحاند. 'Afraid' در مکالمات رایجتر است.
Common. Interchangeable in general use to express fear — 'He is afraid of dogs' or 'He is fearful of dogs' both work. 'Afraid' is more frequent in everyday speech.
رایج/رسمی. دلالت بر نگرانی یا دلواپسی دارد، گاهی درباره خطر احتمالی. وقتی ترس با نگرانی ترکیب شده به کار میرود ـ «او نسبت به امتحان نگران است» کاربرد دارد ولی همیشه جایگزین fearful نیست.
Common/formal. Refers to uneasy or worried feelings, sometimes about possible danger. Used when fear is mixed with concern — 'She is anxious about the exam' works, but not always interchangeable with 'fearful'.
غیررسمی. نزدیک به معنای fearful در استفاده روزمره، اغلب غیررسمیتر ـ «او از صدا ترسید» غیررسمیتر و طبیعیتر است.
Informal. Very close in meaning to 'fearful' in everyday use, often more casual — 'She was scared of the noise' sounds more natural than 'fearful' in informal speech.
